Geneva Accords

The Geneva Conference took place in 1954 with the purpose of unifying Vietnam and restoring peace in Indochina. A result of the conference was a set of documents known as the Geneva Accords. The Geneva Accords divided Vietnam at the 17th parallel, with the promise of unification elections in 1956. The northern area of Vietnam would be governed by the Viet Minh, and the southern area by the State of Vietnam and Bao Dai.
